Provides an alternate win condition in the literal sense, such as Laboratory Maniac and Approach of the Second Sun.

Alternately Cast |
Has an alternate casting cost, such as Force of Will, Elder Deep Fiend, and Fireblast. Does not include things that change its casting cost, like Emrakul, the Promised End; Myr Enforcer; and Fireball.

Attacks Trigger |
Has a trigger when it attacks. Includes cards like Geist of Saint Traft; Primeval Titan; and Skysovereign, Consul Flagship. Doesn't include Exert creatures yet, but will soon.

Bounce |
Returns at least one permanent to its owner's hand, such as Unsummon, Cryptic Command, and Reflector Mage. Does not include spells like Commit and Oust.

Card Draw |
Literally draws a card (or multiple cards), such as Serum Visions; Brainstorm; and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy. Includes Investigate and Cycling cards (like Thraben Inspector and Censor). Does not include cards that adds a card from the library to your hand, like Dark Confidant and Expedition Map.

Cast Trigger (other) |
Has a trigger when other cards are cast, such as Sram, Senior Edificer; Sanctum of Ugin; and Chalice of the Void.

Cast Trigger (self) |
Has a tigger when it is cast, such as Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger; Bruna, the Fading Light; and Demigod of Revenge.
|
Control Magic |
Gains control of a permanent, such as Mind Control, Lay Claim, and Dack Fayden. Also includes temporary control effects like Act of Treason and Insurrection.

Cost-Reduction |
Reduces the costs of spells, but not including itself. Examples include Goblin Electromancer, Oath of Ajani, and Heartless Summoning.

Cost-Tax |
Increase s the costs of spells, but not including itself. Examples include Thalia, Guardian of Thraben; Lodestone Golem; and Geist-Fueled Scarecrow.

Counterspell |
Counters a spell, like Mana Leak, Counterbalance, and Disallow.
|
Damage Prevention |
Reduces the amount of damage that would be dealt, such as Burrenton Forge-Tender, Eiganjo Castle, and Fog.

Deck Manipulation |
Allows you to change the order of cards in your library with some control (ie. not milling), such as Preordain, Ancient Stirrings, and Duskwatch Recruiter.

Dies Trigger (other) |
Triggers when a permanent (not itself) goes to the graveyard, such as Blood Artist, Searing Blood, and Disciple of the Vault.
|
Dies Trigger (self) |
Triggers when it dies, such as Kitchen Finks, Blood Artist, and Voice of Resurgence.
|
Direct Damage |
Deals damage to a player, such as Lava Spike, Hurricane, and Eidolon of the Great Revel. Does not include life loss like Bump in the Night.

Discard Outlet |
Allows you to discard a card, such as Key to the City, Desolate Lighthouse, and Thoughtseize (as it targets a player).
|
Energy Payoff |
Allows you to pay energy, such as Aetherworks Marvel, Harnessed Lightning, and Aether Hub.
|
Energy Source |
Produces energy, such as Servant of the Conduit, Glimmer of Genius, and Attune with the Aether.
|
ETB trigger (other) |
Triggers when something else enters the battlefield, such as Eldrazi Mimic, Jaddi Offshoot, and Authority of the Consuls.

ETB trigger (self) |
Triggers when it enters the battlefield, such as Manglehorn, Oath of Nissa, and Thought-Knot Seer.
|
Evasive |
Has an ability that allows it to deal damage to the opponent through some resistance (such as Flying, Trample, or Islandwalk).
|
Flashy |
Can be cast at any time, by either being an Instant or having Flash.
|
Free |
Can be cast without any mana, or spells that give you back mana once they resolve. Examples include Gitaxian Probe, Dark Ritual, Cloud of Faeries, and Daze.
|
Graveyard Hate |
Moves cards out of the graveyard or disrupts them in some other way, such as Grafdigger's Cage, Rest in Peace, Memory's Journey, and Ground Seal.
|
Hand Disruption |
Removes cards from an opponent's hand, such as Duress, Wheel of Fate, and Karn Liberated.
|
Hybrid |
Has hybrid mana in its text box or mana cost, such as Kitchen Finks, Warden of the First Tree, and Cascade Bluffs.
|
Land Destruction |
Reduces the number of lands on the battlefield, such as Stone Rain, Crumble to Dust, and Armageddon.
|
Lifegain |
Causes you to gain life, either directly or with an ability such as lifelink or extort. Examples include Baneslayer Angel, Timely Reinforcements, and Magister Sphinx.
|
Lord |
A permanent that gives at least some of your creatures a bonus, such as Elvish Archdruid; Gideon, Ally of Zendikar; and Signal Pest.
|
Mana |
Produces mana, such as Llanowar Elves and Mind Stone.

Is either a land, planeswalker, creature, enchantment, or artifact.

Phyrexian |
Has phyrexian mana in its textbox or its mana cost, such as Spellskite, Birthing Pod, and Dismember.

Reanimation |
Returns a card from the graveyard to the battlefield, such as Reanimate; Liliana, Death's Majesty; and Obzedat's Aid.
|
Removal: Artifact |
Kills artifacts. Examples include Kolaghan's Command, Leonin Relic-Warder, and Engineered Explosives.
|
Removal: Creature |
Kills creatures. Examples include Wrath of God, Grasp of Darkness, Swords to Plowshares, and Oblivion Stone.
|
Removal: Enchantment |
Kills enchantments. Examples include Naturalize, Oblivion Ring, and Deicide.
|
Removal: Planeswalker |
Kills planeswalkers, either explicitly (such as Ruinous Path and Dreadbore) or through direct damage (see Direct Damage).
|
Sacrifice Outlet |
Allows you to sacrifice a creature, such as Viscera Seer, Start // Finish, and Smothering Abomination.
|
Token Maker |
Creates tokens, such as Gideon, Ally of Zendikar; Young Pyromancer; and Beast Within.
|
Trick |
An instant or card with flash (see Flashy) that gives a creature you control a power / toughness boost, or a combat-related keyword (like First Strike, Indestructible, or Flying) or hexproof. Examples include Blossoming Defense, Archangel Avacyn, and Rattlechains.

Tutor |
Searches your library for a card. Examples include Rampant Growth, Arid Mesa, and Muddle the Mixture.
|
Utility Land |
A land that has a non-mana ability, such as Misty Rainforest, Wandering Fumarole, and Fetid Pools.

Vanilla |
A creature without any text, such as Goblin Piker, Hill Giant, and Colossapede.
